Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm Hudhud was a strong tropical cyclone that caused extensive damage and loss, near Visakhapatnam and Andhra Pradesh, on October 12. 3 people were killed due to heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds in coastal areas.[20] Within hours of hitting the coast Hundreds of vehicles parked on roads were damaged while heavy rains inundated a few colonies.[22] The runway at Visakhapatnam Airport was flooded, effectively making any outreach even more difficult.
Pop singer, Smita Vallurupalli immediately donated an amount of Rs.5,00,000/- (Five Lakhs) a contribution, towards re building Vizag. She contributed Rs.2,00,000/- directly into the Chief Minister Relief Fund and the residual amount is being spent as essential support to committed NGO’s which are actively involved in outreach and rehabilitation of Vishakhapatnam. She is also involved in procuring and transporting relief aid and mineral water to affected areas.
